The story of Rama and Shinta is not unfamiliar to the ears of Indonesians. Their tale is part of the heroic epic "Ramayana" composed by Valmiki. Although originating from India, several cultures in Indonesia draw inspiration from this famous love story. The Ramayana tale itself comes from India and was written by Valmiki in the form of an epic poem. In short, the two lovers eventually marry and promise to love each other deeply. They pledge eternal love until the end of time. However, after their marriage, Rama is banished to the forest for the rest of his days. Rama always thinks of Shinta and prioritizes her well-being above anything and anyone else in the world.

Together, Rama and Sita transform into Vishnu and Lakshmi. Rama is the incarnation of Vishnu, and Sita is the embodiment of Lakshmi. Vishnu and Lakshmi are the protectors of the universe. This means that the union of Rama and Sita is more than just an ordinary marriage. The Ramayana tells the story of Prince Rama's quest to rescue his wife, Goddess Sita, who was kidnapped by Ravana, the terrifying king of the kingdom of Alengka. On his journey, Rama is aided by his brothers, including Lakshmana, and various mythological creatures such as the white monkey Hanuman. During the spread of Hinduism to the archipelago, the Ramayana story was also brought and adapted into the local culture.
